THE BATAVIA TOWN BOARD voted Wednesday evening to opt out of allowing dispensaries and consumption sites in the town. Those who support having adult-use cannabis retail dispensaries and on-site consumption sites in the town plan to bring the matter to a public vote.

KAYLEE LACEY, a senior at Medina who has suffered the loss of both parents, was one of 25 NYS students announced Thursday as nominees by the state Education Dept. for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, the nation’s highest honors for high school students. Kaylee is salutatorian of her class and plans to become a pharmacist.

JACOB J. SPONAUGLE, 22, was sentenced Wednesday in Genesee County Court to a 15-year prison term, having been found guilty of attempted murder, first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. His victom suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Sponaugle fled the shooting scene. This was the result of a gun deal gone wrong. Sponaugle is on record with a previous weapons charge in 2018.

DEVON O. WRIGHT, 19, Sponaugle’s co-defendant, had been set to face trial at the same time but pleaded guilty. He failed to appear in court and is still wanted on a county warrant.

GARY W. HENSLEY, 45, a former Attica resident, received a prison sentence of 20 years to life after being convicted for 15 burglaries with 21 separate victims throughout WNY in 2019. Items recovered from Hensley included stolen personal property, numerous stolen long guns and two stolen handguns. He was arrested by the Wyoming County Sheriff's Dept.
