From Josh Rice, SOTL

Hello Shake Friends!
Well, we did it. On Saturday 9/19, we held our first live, community event since Saturday 3/7—the first puppet since AB Walker’s original sea serpent hoax made its way around Silver Lake, NY with our first (of what we hope will be annual) Socially Distant Sea Serpent Puppet Parade! The community showed up in full to participate and take in the sight of our football-field-length Sea Serpent. All in all, we had fifty sections of Sea Serpent designed by community members, and the results were gorgeous! We are thrilled with how cooperative and collaborative an event this was, with all COVID safety precautions being in place. It was a tremendous success, and a great day for free, community art in Perry, NY!! But this is just the beginning! Shake on the Lake, in conjunction with the New York State Puppet Festival, will begin the NYSPF@Home virtual puppet performance series! NYSPF@Home is a series of brand-new, short, puppetry works made for an online, on-screen audience, featuring nationally and internationally recognized puppet artists! Our first shows begin Fri 10/2 & Sat 10/3 at 7pm with Bill’s 44th (A Zoom Birthday) by Dorothy James & Andy Manjuck! And you’re invited! Many of us have experienced the virtual Zoom birthday since the pandemic began, but Bill’s 44th birthday party promises to be more surreal and more puppet-y than reality. This 30-minute world premiere show made especially for the Zoom platform was supposed to happen in real life this past June! But we pivot and persist….and still have birthdays. Won’t you pop in, say hello, and send your best to Bill? Tickets range from $0 to $15, and can be found here and here. Hope to celebrate Bill’s 44th with you 10/2 & 10/3 on Zoom!

Best, Josh Rice Producing Artistic Director, Shake on the Lake
