Mid-Winter Survivors' Party Already Becoming a Beloved Tradition

Mid-Winters Survivors are pictured above at the serving table, where they had to choose between Pizza Supreme, Buffalo Chicken, Cheese & Pepperoni, Vegetable, and Gluten-Free. The vegetable pizza was apparently the most popular. There was even bleu cheese for the Buffalo Chicken.
The Mid-Winter Survivors' Party Planning Committee is actually a sub-committee off of the Inspirational Speakers Committee because it was known from the beginning that such an event in the middle of Winter would be an inspirational experience--and it has been! This year, those donating their $5 reservation at the door were generous and we came even closer than last year in meeting our expenses. It has been important to the committee to keep the recommended donation at the same low amount.

In 2018 we had 23 reservations and one not attending because of illness. This year we had 40 reservations and three of those unable to attend. There were four children present, at least one of which enjoyed our Ground Hog coloring sheets on each table. The movie "Ground Hog" was playing in the background but was turned off early since the other activities had a stronger pull than did that DVD. The children enjoyed sledding at the beginning, while the adults got to know each other and chat it up. We were pleased with so many first timers who wound up having a good time!

This year, 2019, we expanded our pizza, entertainment and game options. In addition to five choices of pizza, we had donations of candy, homemade chocolate chip cookies and homemade raspberry pastries. If the appreciation by our guests can be shown by the amount and level of laughter, then it appears that we met our goal for a fun evening.

This year also we expanded beyond year-round residents and began inviting other active, part-time residents. Because we had four children present without any push for it, we hope to open it up next year as being "family friendly." So far we have only heard positive comments, but the committee will be meeting this month to do an evaluation by the whole committee and begin to look to the possibilities for next year.
