Leon C. Patrick, 85, died in Eastside on Prospect Ave. Warsaw, September 28, 2018, where he had been a resident for the last nine years of his life following a stroke. The Service of Celebration was held at Perry First United Methodist Church officiated by its current pastor, Tony Hipes. Former pastors, Doug Wilson and Greg Franklin were also present both for the Service and the luncheon following.
The church was nearly full and the downstairs fellowship hall was filled, made up of primarily a close knit Patrick family and church family. It was good to be reminded that there are a substantial number of Methodist members who also can be seen and greeted at Epworth's concert series and some worship services at Epworth. Several persons stood to recount meaningful and humorous accounts of Leon's life.
The most humorous and inspirational reflections on his life were given by daughter, Karen McCabe, and son, Andrew Patrick. Both spoke of Leon's Christian life and the warm and patient family life which highlighted their upbringing. He was active throughout his life in the life and work of his church.
Among guests present, was the local chapter of the American Legion and three U.S. Marines in full dress attire who ceremoniously saluted and folded the American flag which was then presented to Leon's wife, Joy. Each Legionnaire saluted the Urn of Ashes and pivoted around to salute the American flag. The late Mr. Patrick was a U.S. Marine and served in and during the Korean War.
