Silver Lake Remains Off the
DEC Algae Bloom Early Fall List

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has posted its list of newly reported Algae Blooms for water bodies in NY State and Silver Lake in Wyoming County is not one of them. This negative status is indeed good news since previous years have not always been such good news. 

New waterbodies with harmful algal blooms (HABs) have been added today, September 28, to DEC’s HABs Notifications webpage.This week, 6 waterbodies were added to the notification list. There are currently 77 waterbodies with blooms on the list.

Because waterbodies may have HABs that have not been reported to DEC, we recommend avoiding contact with floating mats, scum and discolored water. If you suspect you have seen a HAB, or you, your family, or pet has been in contact with a HAB, please follow the instructions for reporting a bloom to DEC.
