Mark Twain's original visit to SLI was under the auspices of the Hoag family;
The photo on the left is the actual Mark Twain being hosted by the Hoag's of Alden in their summer cottage on Lakeview Ave. just a little south of Wesley Ave. at Silver Lake. Mr. Hoag is the one who built the Hoag Memorial Museum and Library where his wife's works of art could be displayed. When she died, he left the Hoag Gallery building, with a stipend for maintenance, to the Silver Lake Institute, then named the Silver Lake Assembly, in the year 1895.
The photo on the right is Mike Randall of WKBW 7 Buffalo who travels around doing an excellent portrayal of Mark Twain which was very well received by those attending the 2022 Silver Lake Experience.
