Two NY State Troopers responded to a call from the Reynolds Road area in Machias on Saturday around 9:45 pm concerning a report of a possible suicidal man. Upon arrival, the Troopers found the man, later identified as Thomas Wright. 20, holding a baseball bat.

Wright dropped the baseball bat when commanded by the Trooper, but immediately drew a black pistol on the Troopers at which point he was shot by the Trooper's service revolver, as reported by State Police. Wright's pistol was later identified as an airsoft gun.

Wright was arrested Sunday for menacing in the second degree. He was taken into custody and reportedly given medical aid. Wright was treated at ECMC for the non-life-threatening wound and also received a mental health evaluation.

At the time of the shooting, according to State Police, Wright was also in possession of a second airsoft pistol and a kitchen knife. As a result of the incident and cache, Wright was issued an appearance ticket for a date in August in the Town of Machias Court.
