Mainella Accused of Break-ins in Two Counties:

Man with three prison terms arrested for burglaries in Arcade and Machias

A Sloan man who spent much of his adult life in prison for repeated burglaries and thefts was arrested after a joint investigation into burglaries in Arcade and Machias.

Dominic Mainella Jr., 56, was charged by Wyoming County Sheriff’s investigators with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and petit larceny.

Mainella is accused of breaking into a house in Arcade in November.

Cattaraugus County sheriff’s investigators also expected to charge Mainella with a burglary in Machias, also in November.

Both agencies were able to secure a search warrant and arrest Mainella at his home in Sloan.

Erie County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the warrant and arrest.

Mainella was arraigned in Warsaw Town Court and committed to Wyoming County Jail without bail because of multiple previous felony convictions.

Mainella has spent most of his adult life in prison, beginning with a grand larceny conviction in 1987 in Erie County.

He was convicted of burglary in 1991 in Erie County and served 18 months and in 2001 was convicted of numerous burglaries in Wyoming and other counties.

Mainella received the maximum term allowed, a 15-year determinate sentenced.

He was released at one point, violated parole and was returned to prison in July, 2020.

He was released Sept. 29, 2020 after completing his full sentence and was no longer on parole when arrested for the recent burglaries.
