By SCOTT DESMIT, sdesmit@batavianews.com

PIKE - A Fillmore man was killed and a passenger seriously injured in a one-car crash on East Hillside Road Friday afternoon, Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies said.

Thomas G. Hartman, 44, was driving his 2000 GMC pickup truck east just after 4 p.m. when he left the south side of the road, came back onto the road and went off the north side. The truck slammed into a utility pole.

The crash happened just east of the Eagle town line. A 911 caller reported that a person was partially under the truck.

Deputies said the passenger, Austin T. Hartman, 21, of Pike, was ejected from the truck. He was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Thomas Hartman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wyoming County Sheriff’s Crash Management Team investigated. Pike and Bliss fire departments, along with Mercy Ambulance, Mercy Flight and Coroner Michael Smith were at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
