Area residents are being warned of a scam involving the Medina Police Department phone number.
The scammers are using the department’s phone number of (585) 798-5602. Victims are told they’re wanted on a warrant and the only way to clear up the issue is to pay whatever money they require.
“This isn’t how the Medina Police Department or any other law enforcement agency handles warrants,” Medina officers said in a news release.
If people are contacted, they’re advised to obtain as much information as they can without engaging in a lengthy conversation with the caller. They should then hang up and call 911 or Medina police to speak to an officer.
People should not give the caller any money or information about their financial accounts.
