Perry Senior College Bound:
Rachael Paddock will be heading to shoot at University of Akron

Perry senior Rachael Paddock committed to attend the University of Akron to continue her education in the fall and be a member of the Zip’s rifle team at the University.

As a sophomore back in March 2021, Paddock won the NYS championship title in riflery becoming the first athlete in Section V history to do so in that sport, and just the second-ever to win a state title of any kid from Perry.

Akron is a member of the NCAA Division I with a strong program tradition for the past 103 years. The Zips have had a rifle team since 1919. They are a member of the GARC where they placed third in 2020. They compete at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range.

Rifle is the only co-ed NCAA sport. While other sports hold their men’s and women’s competitions at the same time, rifle competition features male and female athletes competing against each other for one championship. This is a big deal for the Paddock family.

Rachael’s accomplishments as a student and athlete are extensive – a prime example of how hard work and determination lead to success.

The Perry Central School District is beyond proud of Rachael and are eager to see what the future holds for her.
