House heavily damaged in Java fire
A cat was killed in an afternoon fire that caused heavy damage to a house on Chaffee Road Friday. Wyoming County Emergency Management Services officials Monday morning said fire crews were called to 998 Chaffee Rd. at 3:18 p.m. after a neighbor reported the fire. No one was home at the time.
Strykersville, North Java, Arcade, Sheldon and Chaffee-Sardinia fire departments responded and were at the scene for more than five hours.
The house suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage, estimated at a loss of $100,000. The casue remains under investigation.
The occupant of the house, Eric Lerner, and a child living there are being assisted by family and friends.
