Wyoming County Says: 'Metrics Decreasing as January Ends'
Covid-19 Update Offers Contrasting Report: '8 coronavirus-related deaths
in Wyoming and Genesee counties'


Eight COVID-19 related deaths were reported over a one-week period in Wyoming and Genesee counties. Five were reported in Wyoming County — a rare jump in the county that had seen no such deaths for the past few weeks. The county, however, is otherwise experiencing a decrease in daily case reports, officials said in their weekly update. They described it as a positive sign and urged people to continue precautions.

“Please continue with protective measures that will allow these declines to continue and protect our most vulnerable residents,” the officials said. To keep workplaces and schools open, Wyoming County officials recommend wearing a mask when indoors or at crowded outdoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status. They are also asking people to stay home when sick and get tested if they suspect COVID-19.

Area residents are also reminded to isolate if they test positive and let their close contacts know they may have been exposed. Here’s a county-by-county look at the most recent data:

Wyoming County — Wyoming County reported an increase of 320 cases since Jan. 20 for a total of 7,342 cases since the pandemic began, according to county data.

There are 126 weekly reported home positives and 194 weekly reported lab positives. There have been 80 deaths.

A total of 22,821 people, or 56.9% of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Friday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 21,292.

Reports for the other three GLOW Region counties:



Genesee County — From Wednesday to Tuesday, Genesee County reported 745 new cases (229 home tests) for a total of 13,864, according to the county’s COVID-19 dashboard.

Genesee County reported the loss of three community residents over the age of 65. There has been a total of 176 deaths, according to data from the state Department of Health.

A total of 36,763 people, or 63.9% of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Friday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 34,405.

Orleans County — From Wednesday to Tuesday, Orleans County reported 521 new cases (122 home tests) for a total of 8,820 positive cases.

Orleans County has had 107 total deaths.

A total of 23,787 people, or 58.6% of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Friday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 22,205.

Livingston County — As of Friday, the Livingston County Department of Health was reporting 172 active cases of COVID-19 among county residents and a total of 10,842. There have been 80 deaths related to COVID-19, according to the county health department.

A total of 39,512 people, or 62.5% of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Friday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 37,091.

The state Department of Health reports that Livingston County has had 102 deaths related to COVID-19.
