Once Again, Thanksgiving Meals Delivered:
More Volunteers Worked, More Money Received, and More Meals Delivered

Francis of Assisi said, “For it is in giving that we receive.” That is why our Silver Lake Institute (SLI), our Perry Community, and our Wyoming County are such great places to live in the cold months as well as in the warm months. We have such kindhearted, giving folks all months of the year!

The SLI combined forces with the dedicated staff from Asbury Retreat Center and the Wyoming County Community Action (WCCA) along with this year, for the first time, Perry First United Methodist Church, spread even more Thanksgiving Love and Kindness to folks!

109 take-out, prepared, turkey meals were distributed throughout the community the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. A total of $1,891 was raised to fund the event! This was even more than last year! Sue Russell, the Director of Asbury Retreat Center said that the extra money raised will allow for free meal vouchers to Asbury Retreat Center dinners to be distributed throughout the year for people in need in our community.

Many people, from the various groups, volunteered with the amazing guidance of the Asbury Retreat Kitchen Staff to provide the take-out meals. Last year $1,008 was raised and 84 meals were made. This year, with the added volunteers from Perry First UMC, even more love and kindness were spread.

A big THANK YOU to everyone, living near and far, who gave money and/or food for the meals, and to all the local volunteers and workers who gave of their time. Together, we made a difference for our community and will keep making a difference throughout the year. When our neighbors are fed, we all are a strong Community. It is true, for in giving we do receive.
