Victim Taken to Hospital with Serious Injuries:
Perry man charged with felony assault after brawl at Vet's Club

An investigation into an assault on October 30 has led to the arrest of a Perry man, village police said. Devan J. Pries, 23, was charged Saturday with second-degree assault with intent to cause serious physical injury.

The investigation began when village police, state police and Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies were called to Perry Vet’s Club on Lake Street for a report of multiple people fighting in the parking lot late the night of October 30.

While on their way to the scene, dispatchers told officers that there was a man unconscious on the ground in the parking lot. Police were “immediately met by out-of-control patrons” that were involved in the fight, police said.

Perry Ambulance was called and transported the unconscious man to Wyoming County Community Hospital. He was later transferred to Erie County Medical Center with serious injuries.

An investigation revealed two women had been fighting and two men were attempting to break it up. One of those men was the victim, who was allegedly hit by Pries as he was holding back one of the women. The man fell back and struck his head on the pavement, police said.

Pries was arraigned in Village Court. The District Attorney’s Office recommended bail be set at $20,000 but the judge set bail at $1,000.
