Two coronavirus-related deaths reported in Wyoming County; active cases pass 1,000
Two more COVID-19 related deaths occurred over the past week in Wyoming County as more than 1,000 active cases were reported in the GLOW region. That makes for four such deaths over the past three weeks, according to data from the county’s Health Department. The numbers have officials again advising caution as numbers rise and the holiday season ramps up.
“Wyoming County has had a 9.5 percent positivity rate over the last seven days, far above the statewide totals,” county officials said in a news release issued Thursday. “For unvaccinated adults, the pandemic remains a daily threat, and a personal choice to stay unvaccinated will continue to put you and those around you at risk.
“Unfortunately, large-scale gatherings increase the chances of contracting COVID-19 — especially in light of the virus’ Delta variant,” they continued. “Thanksgiving is just a week away, get all your plans in place to celebrate safely. Remember, get the vaccine if you haven’t, get a booster if you have, wear a mask, stay home if you feel sick and keep practicing social distancing.”
A total of 1,033 active coronavirus cases were reported by county health departments on Thursday, including 345 in Livingston County. That compares to 967 active cases Monday and 829 active cases less than a week before on Nov. 12.
As of Wednesday, Orleans County had the state’s fourth-highest seven day rolling average of positives at 11.3 percent, according to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard. It trailed Washington, Fulton, and Cattaraugus counties, while the statewide average was 3.6 percent.
Here’s a county-by-county look at the most recent data:
■ Wyoming County — One hundred and eleven active cases were reported Thursday for a total of 3,980 cases since the pandemic began, according to county data. The number of recoveries is 3,807. There have been 63 deaths.
A total of 21,186 people, or 52.9% of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Friday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 19,627. The county’s seven-day rolling average of positives was 9.32%.
■ Genesee County — From Monday to Thursday, Genesee County reported 133 new positive cases for a total of 7,872, according to the county’s COVID-19 dashboard.The new cases are from ALL age groups. There are 298 active cases, out of which nine are hospitalized. There are 159 new recoveries for a total of 6,922. Genesee County has reported a total of 142 deaths.
A total of 33,956 people, or 59.0% of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Friday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 31,546. The county’s seven-day rolling average of positives was 11.42%.
■ Orleans County — From Monday to Thursday, Orleans County reported 116 new cases for a total of 5,205 positive cases. The new cases are in all age categories except the 80s. There are 279 active cases, out of which four are hospitalized. There are 91 new recoveries for a total of 4,483. Orleans County has had 93 total deaths.
A total of 22,043 people, or 54.3% of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Friday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 20,458. The county’s seven-day rolling average of positives was 13.27%.
■ Livingston County — As of Friday, Livingston County had 345 active cases, according to the county’s COVID-19 dashboard. A total of 6,891 cases had been reported since the pandemic began, along with 6,489 recoveries. There have been 72 deaths, according to the state health department. The county’s COVID tracker reports 55 deaths.
A total of 37,256 people, or 58.9% of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Friday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 34,751. A total of 66.5% of the county’s population of those at least 18 years old had been vaccinated. The county’s seven-day rolling average of positives was 13.59%.
