PAVILION — One person is dead and another reportedly in custody after an accident Friday afternoon on Starr Road. The accident was reported about 2:30 p.m. just north of the Wyoming County border near the Crossman Road intersection.

One person was reportedly ejected from the vehicle while another fled the scene on foot. That resulted in a search by state police and Genesee County sheriff’s deputies. The effort included a state police helicopter and remotely-operated drone.

The search included nearby woods and fields, and police were also observed checking a refuse container for evidence at one point. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said at the scene that a deceased person was lying on the road about 150 yards from the intersection and that a “person of interest” had been taken into custody.

The section of road was closed off while the investigation continued and darkness fell upon the area. Nearby residents and others stood watching from a distance as the troopers and deputies made their way up and down that stretch of road.

Further details were not immediately available as of deadine Friday evening, including the identity of the victim and the person in custody.
