Living Her Dream Since August:
Congratulations Rachel Towsley: River Bend Bakery, Portageville

By KORI SCIANDRA ksciandra@batavianews.com
As the sole proprietor and baker of River Bend Bakery, Rachel Towsley, began her home bakery venture in August. Her passion to become a baker was well-received by her loved ones.

“I have always wanted to open a bakery,” she said. “After much encouragement from family and friends, I decided to — this year.” The home bakery, which allows Towsley to sell her products out of her shop at 6544 East Koy Rd., welcomes customers from all over.

Originally from Hunt in Livingston County, Towsley has been a Portageville resident for the past 12 years. She’s been married to her husband, Jake, for 11 years, and together they have a daughter, Anna. Towsley was a member of the Wyoming County 4-H program as a child. It’s where she first learned many of her skills from her 4-H leader and through the FACS program.

“My mom, who is a great baker, began teaching me when I was young,” Towsley said. “I have also prepped, cooked, baked and prepared desserts at fundraising dinners for numerous organizations.” Towsley previously worked at The Sweet Shop in Angelica, Allegany County. She gained a wealth of knowledge and skill when taught by Owner Karen Ash. Towsley’s experience paired with her passion to bake have led her toward her new endeavor.

“I have met so many wonderful people from near and far,” she said. “I started with my base products of pies, cookies, muffins, cinnamon rolls and sticky buns. We also offer scones, granola bars, turnovers, and biscotti with more to come for the holidays.” In addition to the delectable eats sold on-site, including customer favorites such as old-fashioned friedcakes, turnovers, pies, and sweet rolls, Towsley takes special orders, including some gluten-free alternatives.

Though the bakery will be closed during the holidays, River Bend Bakery will continue to take orders throughout the year. To place an order, call (585) 432-0980 or email riverbendbakery2021@gmail.com. Back-to-school hours include 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday.
