Monday, Tuesday: At Large in Attica
An Attica woman observed this 4.5-foot Nile Monitor Lizard Monday in her back yard on Exchange Street. The creature can bite and can be aggressive if approached. Attica police issued an alert Monday after a Nile monitor lizard which had escaped from its owner was observed by a woman in the village. The creature can inflict nasty bites and can be dangerous to children and small animals.
Nile monitor lizards are illegal in New York, unless the owner has a permit. An investigation by Attica police and the DEC is continuing. Anybody who sees the reptile is asked to call police immediately.
