'Open House' Style Gatherings:
SLI Residents Double Attendance: Wednesday's Dessert on the Dock

The first Dessert on the Dock (DOD) of the Season drew a healthy number of 20 who wound up sharing just two desserts. The fellowship of neighbors and friends, despite a limited selection of sweets, is the best part and word went out so that one week later the attendance moved up to 24 with a significantly increased number of desserts. Last night's DOD, the attendance doubled to 40 and the delicious sweets were also up in numbers.

Two factors seem to have lent themselves to the increased interest in fellowshipping with old and new friends, and particularly meeting the new residents. This week, many had the opportunity of meeting one of our newer residents, Peggie Phillips, who was just elected to the Board of Trustees at the Institute.

One of the factors increasing interest in Wednesdays' fellowships is the "open house" approach to the event. There is now no coordinated starting time, but rather a time when the "gathering of the community" begins. The second factor came out of the group itself which was to begin the gathering 30 minutes earlier at 7:00 pm. Folks now seem more comfortable coming and going as their time permits. All SLI residents, families, and friends are invited to stop by for your Wednesday dessert. You may bring a dessert to share if you like, but it is not necessary--fellowship is the key.
