BOB FRANKE

Some background information about Dr. Bob Franke I was born in Niagara Falls, in 1944. So I am a 77 years old. We moved to Lewiston, NY when I was 12 and I graduated from Lewiston Porter Central HS in 1962. Then I entered Roberts Wesleyan College, near Rochester, NY. After graduating from RWC in 1966, with a major in biology and minor in chemistry, I began teaching biology at Niagara Wheatfield High School. I retired from there in 1999 after 33 years of teaching. My wife also graduated from RWC and taught at taught at a local elementary school until God blessed us with some children of our own. As of July 2nd, 2021, my wife Bonnie and I have been happily married for 55 years.

I graduated from Niagara University with a Master’s of Science Degree in 1972. Then I entered University of Buffalo and earned a Doctorate in Education in 1989.

A little more relevant to the responsibilities of a trustee are experiences that I will share now. I have owned three rental properties in Niagara Falls and managed an additional 16 apartments for my uncle when he moved to California. We own 2 properties in our local neighborhood as well as a cottage. Our daughter, Linda and her son Robbie live there. I do most of the maintenance on my rental properties and have learned a great about dealing with people who are sometimes friendly and sometimes difficult to deal with.

After retiring from teaching, I enrolled in Wesley Seminary and completed the Course of Study to become a Licensed Local Pastor in the United Methodist Church. I served about 17 years and then retired again. I currently serve part time at the Pendleton Center United Methodist Church.

I served as choir director for 35 years and Youth Director for about 10 years in a Free Methodist church. From 1975-1980 I served as chair of the Trustees in that church and coordinated the construction of a new church. It was about 1995 when we left the Free Methodist Church and came to PCUMC. It was here that I recognized God’s call to become a pastor.

I won’t bore you with more ramblings, but I believe I have had many experiences that have prepared me to carry on the responsibilities of a Trustee for Silver Lake Institute. Lord willing, I would like to serve in that capacity if you so desire.

Yours in Christ, Dr. Bob Franke

JEANNE OWENS

BACKGROUND AND INTRODUCTION

My husband and I purchased our summer home within the Silver Lake Institute in September 2020. Terry and I have been together for over 40 years having met, fresh out of college, while we both worked at Eastman Kodak Company. We have proudly raised our three grown children in the town of Greece. Our son and wife reside in San Diego, our middle daughter and family live in Hartford, and our youngest daughter and husband recently purchased the home where I grew up. We spend much of our time traveling to spend time with our family, especially to Connecticut visiting our three granddaughters – five-year-old twins and their two year-old baby sister.

 CAREER HISTORY

After my youngest left for college, I worked full time for Monroe County where I recently retired from Administration within the Monroe County Office of Probation – Community Corrections. During my time within Monroe County, I held positions in the departments of public safety and human services. While raising my young children, I owned and operated an at-home business for over 20 years named Words Per Minute. I held part-time positions as a dance instructor, Mattel Toy field support representative, and loan officer within a credit union. My husband jokes with me that my main goal while working part-time was to beat the school bus home!

 BOARD OF TRUSTEE NOMINATION

It is an honor to be nominated. I would be pleased to meaningfully contribute to the Silver Lake Institute and its mission. Purchasing this home within SLI is an investment and I wish to invest and give back to this community. As a new resident, I have much to learn and am willing to listen. I believe my skill set and approachable personality would be beneficial as a member of the Board of Trustees. I look forward to an opportunity to understand, communicate, brainstorm, organize, and strategize to keep this community socially unified and retain the history of the Silver Lake area and its residents.

  PEGGY (Wahler) PHILLIPS

I’m proud to say I have a lifelong connection with the Silver Lake Institute and would like to be a part of the leadership team. My youth and teen summers were spent here at our family cottage and there are still many friends living here now that I met as a child. For the past 30 years I have visited family and friends nearly every year. I am happy to say that in 2019 I became a year-round resident at the Institute.

Most of my adult life was involved with the Air Force where I was Air Traffic Controller. My service allowed me the opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Professional Aeronautics and later a Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology. I spent time in Education Management and was the Assistant Center Director of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. That was followed by the position of Site Director for Southern Illinois University, also at Eglin AFB. Both positions were responsible for managing student recruitment and total program administration providing college courses to military members. Finally, I worked several years as a high school guidance counselor in Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

Along the way my life was filled with numerous volunteer activities surrounding my three wonderful kids. Needless to say, I had to learn how to make the most of every hour of every day. Multi-tasking is my strength.

I have a very creative approach to problem solving and activity planning. I pride myself in thinking “outside the box”. I am currently a volunteer member of the SLI Program Committee.

If selected to join the Board I would use my life-learned skills, lifelong contacts, SLI friends and neighbors to make sure that life at the Institute remains a very special experience.

  STEVEN RE

I am an enthusiastic candidate for a Trustee position of the Silver Lake Institute. I was first introduced to Silver Lake about 10 years ago, spent several summers here and have become a full-time, year-round resident since 2019.

I graduated from Cal-State University, Long Beach with a degree in Telecommunications. While in the Air Force I earned a Master’s degree in Business Management and an Associate’s degree in Accounting.

Joined US Air Force in 1974 and served 20 years as an Air Force officer. During my career I flew airplanes, recruited officer candidates, managed national level community relations programs for Air Force recruiting, taught college ROTC at UMASS, directed public affairs programs for the AF Finance Center and finished my career as a financial plans and programs officer. I have extensive experience in program management, logistics, financial management and problem solving.

After retirement, I was the officer in charge of Air Force Junior ROTC programs for 18 years at high schools in California, Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Over the past 30 years I have also maintained an active real estate license (currently Florida) as a part-time real estate agent.

I believe my education and experience have given me a broad span of knowledge and abilities…from public relations to financial management.

I believe that issues are resolved by diligent efforts to collect and analyze the facts; not hearsay, rumors or assumptions. With facts on your side, solutions are much easier to achieve. I promise to do my best to focus on the facts and listen attentively to all sides of an issue.

The Silver Lake Institute is truly a unique and historic community with so much to share with residents, the local community and visitors. I would like to apply my knowledge and experience into continuing to improve the great atmosphere at SLI with proactive, positive and compassionate leadership.

REMEMBER, COTTAGE OWNERS MUST BE PRESENT AT       THE JULY 17th COTTAGE OWNER’S MEETING TO VOTE. SEE YOU THERE!
