Second Tanker Called to Transport the Milk:
One injured after milk truck burrows into soft soil ditch in Alexander
Mark Gutman/Daily News

A truck driver was injured Wednesday afternoon when his milk tanker rolled over near 11181 Chaddock Road in Alexander. The tractor-trailer was hauling about 60,000 pounds of milk, said Director Tim Yaeger of Genesee County Emergency Management. It rolled over into a ditch and sustained what appeared to be extensive damage.

Rescue crews worked for an hour and a half to free the driver, who was described as conscious and alert. He was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center. Crews were still working to remove the tractor-trailer from the ditch as of Wednesday afternoon. A second tractor-trailer had arrived in order to remove the damaged vehicle’s milk, to lighten the load and make the recovery process easier. Some oil and other material from the damaged vehicle had leaked.

Firefighters from Alexander, Bethany, Batavia, Attica and Darien responded, along with Mercy Ambulance and the Genesee County Spill Response Team. State police and county sheriff’s deputies are also at the scene.
