Not Mann's First Rodeo:
Deputies Taser man who
came at them with ax, stick
GENESEE FALLS — Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies were able to successfully subdue a three-time felon who came at them with a double-bladed ax and large stick Sunday. Deputies were called to a house on Route 19A to investigate a reported domestic dispute that happened Saturday night.

While at the house, John P. Mann, 31, of Portageville refused to cooperate and went into a wooded area behind the house. Deputies said he returned with a large ax and “advanced aggressively at officers while displaying the ax.” Deputies talked to Mann, who soon dropped the ax but still held a large stick in his hand, refusing to put it down.

Mann came at the deputies “quickly and aggressively” and threatened to kill the deputies. A Taser was deployed and Mann was taken down a few feet of the deputies. No one was injured. Mann was charged with menacing a police officer, a class D violent felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Mann was arraigned in County Court and committed to Wyoming County Jail with bail set at $25,000. Sgt. Colin Reagan and deputies Michael Majtyka and Renee Rudolph were assisted by state police and Pike Ambulance. Mann is a three-time convicted felon who has served two state prison terms. He served a two-year term for a drug-dealing conviction in 2010. Mann also served an 18-month to three-year term for a grand larceny conviction in Livingston County in 2016.
