Father, daughter and dog escape house fire; two cats killed
A father and daughter and their dog were able to escape a fire that destroyed their house Sunday night, Wyoming County fire officials said. Twelve fire companies responded to a report of a fire at 368 Route 77 just before 11 p.m. The occupants of the house, Mike Leroy and his daughter and dog were able to escape the fire, which killed two cats.
The house and garage were declared a total loss as fire crews spent about five hours at the scene. A neighboring house sustained exterior damage, fire officials said. The cause is under investigation. Units from Bennington, Attica, Cowlesville, Sheldon, Strykersville, Harris Corners, North Java, Darien, Alexander, the City of Batavia, Corfu and Alden responded. Wyoming County Emergency Management personnel and sheriff’s deputies were also at the scene, along with NYSEG and the American Red Cross.
