Wyoming ATV Death:
Warsaw man killed in ATV Crash

A 24-year-old man was killed when he crashed an all-terrain vehicle into a railroad light post and was ejected early Wednesday morning, Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies said. The ATV landed on top of Gregory E. Kersch after he was ejected, Sheriff Gregory Rudolph said.

Dispatchers received a 911 call just before 7 a.m. with a report that a man was trapped under an ATV on Miller Road at the railroad crossing. A deputy arrived and found Kersch, of Warsaw, dead at the scene.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Crash Management Team’s preliminary report said that Kersch was traveling alone in the early-morning hours and was north on Miller Road when he hit the crossing signal light post and was ejected. Rudolph said it was not believed that a train was in the area at the time of the crash and it appears no one else was involved. Coroner Michael Smith, Norfolk Southern railroad police and Warsaw police assisted.

The crash was the second fatal ATV accident in five days in the area. Saturday night, Thomas S. Butlre, 43, of Oakfield died after he drove an ATV into a rock embankment and was ejected. A passenger, 55, was injured.
