Firefighters have a grass fire under control this afternoon in Attica, but were still trying to extinguish it as of around 4:50 p.m., Wyoming County Fire/EMS Coordinator William Streicher said. Fire depart-ments were dispatched to 3930 E. Main Street Rd. Streicher said no one was injured as of this time. Smoke could seen as far away as Batavia in Genesee County.

“It’s pretty well-contained. A pile of tires got to be involved. It (the fire) spread to the tires,” he said. “It’s pretty dry out here right now and windy.” The state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is at the scene, Streicher said. It’s early in the response, but the DEC will most likely do the investigation, he said.
