SLI Program Grant for Summer 2021 to be Awarded Next Week via Zoom

Word was received by Julia Hoffner, Chair of SLI Program Committee, that the Committee's Grant Application for 2021 has been approved and will be awarded by way of Zoom next Friday, March 5th. The New York State grant is received through the auspices of the Arts Council of Wyoming County and is usually done at the ACWC facility on Main St. in downtown Perry.

This year's Awards Ceremony is being accomplished through the Covid-19-safe method of Zoom, a visual and audio system that plays through most audio-visual computers that are connected to the internet. The Award Checks will then be mailed. This will make possible SLI's Friday night concerts and other various programs.

The grants are usually issued earlier in the year but for some reason were held up until the first week in March causing some recipients to be concerned that possibly the State had run out of money because of the expenses of Covid-19. SLI had already begun looking into possible alternatives to enable programming for the summer to take place. This positive development was enthusiastically received and much appreciated.

Last Summer with no vaccines yet developed to counteract the Covid-19, SLI Trustees felt obligated to protect their community from the disease, closed down the Institute and its summer programs. With vaccines now available will provvide for a safer opportunity to provide programming for the Summer of 2021. The one exception will be the Silver Lake Experience (SLE) which has postponed their three-day event from 2021 to the Summer of 2022 in order to provide for the full "experience" of Silver Lake without medical restrictions.
