WNY has Worst Covid-19 Positivity Rate in NYS, Hospitalizations at 350 Patients
Western New York still has the worst COVID-19 positivity rate in the state, while continuing to see high hospitalizations, according to new data provided by the county. The region’s daily COVID-19 positivity rate is 7.2%, and most of Erie County is in the orange zone designated by the state. Parts of Niagara County are in yellow zones.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said positivity rates are down slightly across the state, but the number of deaths is up. The state is currently working out a plan to tackle the virus this winter as cases are expected to increase after Thanksgiving and through the end of the year.
“All the global experts say the same thing. This virus has phases,” Cuomo said on a press call Thanksgiving morning. “As the phase changes your plan should change. Phases can be seasonal. Summer plan, fall plan, winter plan, it can be triggered by the numbers."
