Saturday was a beautiful day as we look toward a much cooler Sunday

8:46 pm -- Today (Saturday) was an unusually warm day for mid October as the temperature at Silver Lake rose to 76 degrees. As a result, Letchworth State Park closed to new visitors because it reached its maximum capacity around 12:30 pm. According to the park's Facebook page, they asked, earlier this afternoon, that anyone who had been planning to go to please make alternative plans.

The closure comes as Letchworth and other state parks have COVID-19 restrictions in place, including a reduced capacity and requirements for social distancing. Several other state arks in New York State made similar closure announcements on Saturday, including in Watkins Glen. Tomorrow's temperature is only expected to reach a high of 59 degrees. Rain was originally forecast for tomorrow but the current forecast has been changed to sun and clouds and a cooler day.
