‘Heartbreaking’: Wyoming, Genesee and Hemlock fairs have been canceled
PIKE — It’s a 177-year-old tradition often considered New York’s best small fair. But in a highly painful move for its hundreds of volunteers and wider community, this year’s Wyoming County Fair has been canceled due to COVID-19 safety concerns. In the meantime, the Genesee County Fair and Hemlock Fair in Livingston County have also announced their cancellations.

“After much research and discussion, the Wyoming County Board of Directors voted that having the Wyoming County Fair in 2020 is not in the best interest for our guests, participants, volunteers, vendors and exhibitors,” said Fair Board President Alan Rudgers in a news release issued Wednesday. “... The decision is a very heartbreaking one as the annual tradition brings so much to the community and all involved. However, keeping everyone healthy and safe is the No. 1 priority.” The announcement wasn’t the first time Wyoming County Fair has been canceled. The event went on hiatus during World War II.
