Former Ambassador Details Obama-Era Preparations and Drills for a Pandemic

On a popular morning cable show this Thursday morning, one of the guests was former Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice. The hosts reminded the virtual audience that President Donald Trump often uses the comment, "Who knew something like this could happen?" Their questions to the Ambassador wanted to know if she knew about any talk of a pandemic during the Obama years.

Ambassador Rice explained that there were warnings as far back as 2005 during the George W. Bush years which she said President Obama took very seriously. He went so far as to establish an office within the National Security Council, headed up by Ambassador Rice to not only study the issue of the world's readiness for such an occurrence, but to bring back a plan of action.

Ambassador Rice explained how long and hard they worked on the project and did, in fact, bring back a comprehensive plan which began with preparations for a pandemic beginning with the United States. After Obama studied it and approved it, they set about conducting a comprehensive drill so that all parts of the government could practice and know their roles and responsibilities.

The complete study and results of the drill(s) were gifted to the next administration--whoever that would be. The next administration was given every opportunity to benefit from this wealth of knowledge and preparation.

It is unknown what the current administration did with this document because apparently "who knew something like this couple happen?" It is known, however, that the U.S. Intelligence Service began briefing the White House as early as Jan. 3 just weeks after the China epidemic. Nothing happened on the U.S.'s federal level until March 2020 and the States were told to handle it.

Advisers to President Trump have said that the President was not interested in anything from the Intelligence community nor the Obama Administration. That's why, apparently, there is no comprehensive, national plan in place now.
