Grey Day with Very Limited Sun;
Mild Today with Passing Showers,
But Neither Halted the Triathlon

Uproarious Cheering could be easily heard in the Sunday morning hours shortly after 8 am throughout the Silver Lake basin. The cheering was for participants of the first two swimming events of the well publicized Triathlon sponsored by the Asbury Camp and Retreat Center and supported by other lake-related businesses and non-profits.

Official road closures designed to insure the safety of the runners and bicyclists created some very unusual detours. Local traffic control persons had to respond to some of the unofficial closures because there was no way out of dead end streets, and roadside parking blocked passage.

Most locals, however, were happy to welcome both the organizers of the Triathlon and local residents who participated. Due to an inconvenient cancellation, the motivational speaker which had been planned for 5 pm at Epworth Hall for all participants, was unable to take place. The long distance bike race was designed to circle all of Silver Lake, so all lake residents should have been able to get a glance of some part of the Triathlon.

59 degrees at 4:13 pm Sunday.
61 degrees for about half hour in the vicinity of 4:30 pm.
Late afternoon sun breaks through by 4 pm.
