This year's Mid-Winters Survivors' Party was the second experiment in a mid-winter's gathering of SLI residents to help break up the winter months and in the process visit friends and meet new residents Both years we had a basic plan for the flow of the evening, but also allowed for the spontaneity and uniqueness of each year's group to blossom according to their unique personalities.
In 2018 we had 23 reservations and 22 in attendance. In 2019 we had 40 reservations and 37 in attendance. In 2018, we had 2 different styles of pizza plus Gluten-free, and in 2019, we increased to 4 different styles of pizza plus Gluten-free and held the recommended donation at $5 per person for two years in a row.
In 2018 we did a U.S.P.S. direct mailing but in 2019 we switched from the more labor intensive mailing to the use of 2 road signs for 2+ weeks of exposure. In 2018, all table games were optional whereas in 2019 we had one organized game of "Spoons" which turned out better than we had anticipated (Chuck Dusel won the Ground Hog award for his play-off expertise).
As we evaluate the food, program, entertainment and details, we will be doing so with an eye to 2020 (the third year of the mid-winter party). We invite those who came out to enjoy the evening (and those who would like to in the future) to share your thoughts and ideas with us.
