A Memory from
Several Generations Back

One could buy a ticket to get into the gated community and its events for $1.50 for the whole season. Approximately 52-56 years later than this dated ticket, all tickets to SLI/Assembly became obsolete when permission was granted to the municipality to put a public road through the center of the Silver Lake Institute. Perry Ave. originally started at Camp Road and ended at Embury Ave. It was extended from Embury in a semi-circle around the west end of the Park and was connected to an old road named Kingsley Ave. on the south side of Genesee Ave. which was doubled in width all the way over to Chapman Road. Since Kingsley ended into Ames Ave., the last section of Ames became part of the new double-lane municipal road. The gates that originally kept non-paying customers out, at Camp and Chapman, were removed and then all persons were then able to access the post office and historical buildings without any restrictions such as the old requirement of a ticket.
