PPD Officers Forced Off the Road by Intoxicated Matthew W. Beaumont

Matthew W. Beaumont
Officers David Spink of Silver Lake and Gregory Smith of Perry were on routine patrol on Saturday, October 27, 2018 when Officer Spink's patrol vehicle was almost struck head on, causing Officer Sprink's patrol vehicle to leave the roadway.  Officer Sprink safely got back onto the road and performed a routine traffic stop on Camp Road. Upon stopping the vehicle it was found that the driver of the vehicle, Matthew W. Beaumont, 28, from Castile, was allegedly operating the vehicle intoxicated.

Officer Sprink had Beaumont perform field sobriety. After performing poorly and refusing a breath test, Beaumont was placed under arrest. It was later found that Beaumont was operating the motor vehicle almost twice the legal limit with a BAC of .15%. Along with being charged with Driving While Intoxicated Beaumont was charged with reckless driving and ticketed for refusing to take a breath test roadside, and failure to keep right. Beaumont was released on an appearance ticket with a return court date of December 4, 2018, to answer the charges.
