3 Days Remain to Complete the 'Midterms,' then Wednesday brings Freedom to Celebrate the Holidays

This has seemed to be one of the longest election seasons in a long time. It seemed like it would never end.  With just two days remaining before Election Day, most minds have been made up and ready to cast a vote. It would be, however, unpatriotic and undemocratic to cut it short. We must remain proud to live in a country where leadership, chosen by the People, is such a prolonged and serious business.

The most tragic part of this Midterm experience has been the strong and unfortunate language of hate which pitted American against American. This should not be. We all are first and foremost Americans before anything else. We debate the qualities and disadvantages of policies but should not be ripping each other apart as individuals. The more this nastiness takes place, the longer the healing process, if healing is even possible in some circumstances.

I long for a return to being a nation of compassion and a nation that considers all of God's creation to be of extreme value--be that in the stewardship of the earth, or in social and legal equality. In other words, a return to the love of one another throughout our nation and throughout the whole wide world.

We must turn the page to children being taken from their parents as an American policy for refugee requests. We must turn the page to the type of hateful language that results in 11 Jewish deaths in the midst of their Sabbath We must turn the page to the killing of unarmed Black folks (and all human killing) and recognizing the God-given value of human life.

I pray that Election Day will be a day of cleansing thereby ending anti-family government policies. Let us work together for a more compassionate, fair and opiate-free society. God help us to accomplish his/her kingdom.
