Members of SLI Attend Welcoming Luncheon for New Methodist Pastor

An official welcoming luncheon was held for new Pastor Tony and Judy Hipes at Perry First United Methodist Church this morning (Sunday) following worship. Attending from the Silver Lake Institute were Doug Wilson (Thompson Ave.), Jackie Kraft (Fillmore Ave.), and Greg Franklin (Haven Ave.). Also present was Jessie Barth as the Guest Choir Director who spoke briefly on the need for more women in the choir and that volunteers were being sought.

Absent from the event was Joanne Brocklehurst (Lakeside Ave.), Director of the Bell Choir, who was vacationing out of state with her husband Paul Penner. Also absent was Doug Spencer (Perry Ave.) who is rehabbing in Warsaw from back surgery this past week and hopes to be returning home soon.

Pastor Tony spoke on the subject "Mountain Sunday: Protection and Care" based on the Scripture Psalm 125, read by older teenager, Stone Sahrle, whose grandmother, Val Sahrle, coordinates the Thursday morning painters at Hoag. She also was present at the luncheon.

One of Pastor Tony and Judy's specialty areas is youth. Their previous church and home was in Medina, NY, and their families live in Vermont. To read a brief "bio" of Tony, click on "Read More" (below, left):
