Hoag was the Scene and Sound of Jamaican, African Drums this Morning

Julie Hoffner Photo
Jackie Hoyt from the Wyoming County Council on the Arts, and whose native country is Jamaica, presented a workshop on Tropical and African drumming at Hoag Memorial this morning from 10 am to 11:30 am.

Twenty-three Institute couples and family members were instructed in the basics of drumming including the Bass, the Open, the Beat, the Rhythm, the Call and the Response. Brand new drummers were surprised at how well they did when they had opportunity for a solo rhythm performance accompanied by the entire group.
A significant number of the group expressed pleasure with the experience and are looking forward to Jackie's next presentations at next year's Silver Lake Experience (August 8-11, 2019). Julie Hoffner photo
