Fashion Feature Introduction Comes
To Blog: Watch it Grow and Develop

The Worship Service of August 5th is currently scheduled to be held in Bishop Burt Park on the first Sunday of August in recognition of both the Silver Lake Assembly's best years and worst years, culminating in the arson fire that destroyed what many considered at that time to be the heart beat of the Assembly. We celebrate the good years, and we mourn both the "Cleveland Depression" years, foreclosures, and ultimately the loss of the very Auditorium / Amphitheater that made such successful numbers possible. So radical was the loss that the Chautauqua styles of teaching were dropped, the "Institute" styles adopted, and to dramatize the radical changes, the name of the Silver Lake Assembly was changed to Silver Lake Institute to reflect the new start and new directions of the 20th Century, and more specifically the 1920s without the capabilities that the Auditorium provided..

In honor and recognition of this Centennial Year of the Loss of the Auditorium, the Worship Committee has moved the Worship Service of August 5th to the Park followed by their usual scrumptious homemade baked goods by Joan and Ray Maddison. The Committee has also invited persons to use that day as a "Dress Up Day" helping to make the day a special community event. The Blog's new Fashion Feature will show the changing styles of that period and even offer information on obtaining sewing patterns and "costume" renting opportunities. One dress found online, up to this point, is priced as low as $19.95 for rental with delivery and mail-back included. Men will also learn how to avoid being overheated in a three piece wool suit because there actually were other styles worn after the 1870s..

Winter, also known as the Institute's "off-season," provides the opportunity to reflect on the Auditorium's 100 Years of change, and at the same time engage in the free exchange of ideas and thoughts with all members of the Institute, so their voices and preferences can be heard, in the interest of true and lasting transparency (see tab above), before the final "nod" of the Board of Trustees at their April 7th meeting this Spring. So don't wait, if you have a preference or idea to make the day special and a plan for covering any related expenses, comment below this article, or call Chaplain Greg at his new number, 483-8603 (his old phone number discontinues March 1st).

The Fashion Feature will continue to be constructed with "new" historical material as often as possible for your reading and educational enjoyment (Education being one of SLI's basic Charter elements). You will hopefully find new material on a daily basis--at least that's the desired goal.
