Committee for Aug. 5 'Dress Up Day' Requests Input from SLI Residents

The current plan for Sunday, August 5th, is to celebrate the big Auditorium years of 1888-1918 by conducting the Worship Service in Bishop Burt Park on the location of the old auditorium along Genesee Ave. opposite Ames Ave. Walkway. It will be held from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. This will be followed by the usual delicious homemade goodies and drink during the fellowship hour that follows.

To make the event a special day for the community, the Worship Committee is inviting any and all persons to come dressed in the period styles of 1888-1918 and each attendee bring their own lawn chair, folding chair or blanket so cleanup of the Park will be accomplished by everyone present. (Anyone needing to borrow a chair from Stoody should plan to return it when finished with it.) In addition, each individual and/or family can remain for as long as they like in the comfort of their own chair(s) which also allows for family picnics or even a simple brown-bagging it.

Before the Worship Committee takes its plan for the Dress Up Day to the Board of Trustees at their April 7th meeting, the Committee would like to know from the residents of those who would like to attend that day, whether or not to expand upon the "special" aspect of the day. For example, should there be an official "community picnic" planned as opposed to individual and family picnics. Also, for example, should the Committee invite one of the Rochester food trucks so hot food would be available for those who wanted to eat their Sunday Lunch in the Park. Yet another example, should a community baseball game be organized? Since the Worship Committee is totally made up of persons over 70 years of age, help would be needed for anything beyond the current plan of optional events. We ask all interested residents, "What would you like to see take place on August 5th and what would you be willing to do to help bring it about?"

Your input can be received by phoning or talking in person to one of the following persons: Don Weaver, Chair; Greg Franklin, Chaplain (483-8603); Joan and Ray Maddison, Refreshments and Ushers; Julie Hoffner, musical accompaniment; Suzanne Bristow, printed folder for Worship to include words to the music being used. Another alternative way to communicate to us is through the "comment" sections on this Blog. Utilizing the comment sections allows everyone to be part of the ideas and discussions. Thanking you in advance for your thoughts and input.
