RIVER FLOOD WARNING FROM 1PM EST FRI UNTIL 7:32AM EST SAT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO HAS ISSUED A * FLOOD WARNING FOR THE GENESEE RIVER AT PORTAGEVILLE * UNTIL SATURDAY MORNING. * AT 11 AM FRIDAY THE STAGE WAS 17.1 FEET AND RISING. * FLOOD STAGE IS 19.0 FEET. * MINOR FLOODING IS FORECAST. * FORECAST...THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO RISE ABOVE FLOOD STAGE THIS AFTERNOON AND CREST NEAR 20.9 FEET THIS EVENING. * IMPACT...AT 19.0 FEET...FLOOD STAGE, RIVER BEGINS TO OVERFLOW INTO AGRICULTURAL LANDS FROM BELFAST TO LETCHWORTH. ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM EST SATURDAY...




* WHAT... Rain changing to freezing rain and sleet through this evening, then heavy snow expected tonight through Saturday. Travel will be very difficult to impossible, with very slippery travel conditions for the evening commute today as water quickly freezes on untreated surfaces. Total snow accumulations of 9 to 17 inches and ice accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch are expected.

* WHERE... Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, and Ontario counties.

* WHEN... From 4 PM this afternoon to 4 PM EST Saturday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... The rain and freezing rain at the onset of the event, followed by heavy snowfall, will create extra slippery travel conditions. Be prepared for a widespread, heavy and wet snowfall that will create difficult travel conditions across the region. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.
