Temps in the 30s today Should feel Quite Good After Weeks of Bitter Cold

We are finally out of the woods when it comes to day after day of dangerous, bitter cold temperatures and wind chills. Yesterday was the transition and we watched it all day long because of the fascination of a temperature beginning below zero and continuing to increase even after midnight.. The temperatures held steady overnight bypassing previously forecast lows. The North End of Silver Lake went from 29 to 30 sometime between 1:30 and 6:45 am. I woke up this morning with a strong urge to sing a chorus of "We're Having A Heat Wave," when actually we are just returning to more seasonal temperatures.

The forecast for today includes 1 to 3 inches of snow with a high of 36 for the Lake Outlet area and a high of 33 for the Silver Lake Marine area in the South End. The snow may actually feel incidental today after such profound and prolonged cold as we have experienced since before Christmas. We are hoping that the one reported frozen water pipe at the Schultz-Horowitz cottage will be the only one to create damage, although my shower drain froze, being the only one in the cottage that drops into the unheated crawl space. Many thanks to a friend and neighbor who wrapped heating wire around it which corrected the problem in just one day.

No word yet on the changes made necessary by the damages caused by that burst water pipe at the location of our planned Mid-Winter Survivors' Party, but because we are determined to be genuine survivors, we hope to have new information out to the year-round residents as quickly as possible just in case the date can remain the 20th, which is one week from Saturday. And now for another chorus of "We're Having a Heat Wave, a Tropical Heat Wave...."

UPDATE: Mid-Winter Survivors' Party will remain on Jan. 20 at 4 pm but the location will move to Asbury's Koinonia Inn. Don't bring any food items with you but do bring a donation, one which you can afford, to help cover pizza and drinks.
