Board Approves 'No Parking' on Ames Walkway From July 1 thru Labor Day;
Exception: 15-Minute Pickup, Drop-off

Residents of Ames Walkway will be receiving their permanent, off-season, approximately 10-feet wide parking spot in late Spring of 2018 on Ames Walkway immediately in front of their cottage unless they elect to park elsewhere on their property. That's part of the Road Sharing Plan adopted last year by the Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) with consensus of the SLI Board. The next step of the Road Sharing Plan was adopted today, Oct. 14, 2017, when the Board set July 1 thru Labor Day as a "No Parking" time period but then the SLI Board added a free gift to residents by allowing for pick-ups and deliveries by cars or vehicles and trailers wider than the approximately 10-feet wide parking spot for a time period of 15 minutes during July 1 thru Labor Day. The only year-round restriction is simply not to block the 6-foot walking path (as per the circa 1980 understanding).

Under the Road Sharing Plan, residential vehicles will have access to their related cottages by way of Haven and Hamline Avenues. The Board approved closing the Genesee Ave. entrance to Ames Walkway and the Perry Ave. entrance to Ames Walkway to all vehicular traffic from July 1 thru Labor Day. During July and August, two wooden pillars will be placed at each entrance to Ames Walkway alerting walkers to its availability and stopping vehicle traffic at that point. Both the walkway and residential vehicle driveways will be adequately marked. Colored flags will again be used from but extended from July 1 thru Labor Day. The walkway entrances at Genesee and Perry will be marked as a walkway and decked out with two lamp pole pillars during the Season, as pictured above and to the right. The pillars will be put away to protect them for the winter.
