Mother Nature continues to Lower the Colored Flags on Ames Walkway Through Wind and Rain

The colored, triangular flags which had been installed along the Ames Walkway for the purpose of guiding guests and registrants along the allowable path, held fairly well for the first 15 days of their installation but at least two lengths are laying on the ground and a third is hanging low. Although the LRPC authorized them to remain up through the close of the season on Labor Day, those flags which are already down will simply be removed. Those still standing tall will be left up. Several property owner has given their OK for the flags that run parallel to their property to remain up indefinitely so long as they remain in good shape. So this year, the white snows of winter may have a little additional color to them.

Before any permanent walkway poles for signs, flags, or gardens can be installed, the LRPC is now looking into obtaining already performed property surveys being held at the County Records Department in order to develop a survey of Ames Walkway so it will be known where the road rights-of-way are and such poles will then be able to be placed. The idea of semi-portable sign bases concreted into movable cement blocks is still in play at this time. The Board might be asked to approve a 15-minute Parking Limit on Ames Walkway--considered to be just long enough for pick ups and deliveries to be made, with the caveat that no vehicle ever completely blocks pedestrians' access to the walkway (an old rule from the 1980s).
