Bill Schaefer Manages to Surprise Julie Hoffner with the Silent Hero Award at 'Desert on the Dock' Gathering at Hoag

Bill read the award before presenting it to Julie, announcing that she had been a Laker for 60 years and an accompanist at Worship for 40. She also serves at chairing the Program Committee and writes the grants for Arts funds to help bring the programs to us. She opens up and closes down big Epworth Hall for almost every SLI event. The full text of all four Silent Hero awards will be published as soon as received.

A very special effort on the Schaefers' part to ensure this award would remain a surprise for Julie was made at the Awards Dinner and humorously repeated several times not only ensuring that the News.Blog got the message, but that everyone else was sure to hear it and . . . it worked! Julie was caught by surprise to the delight of all 46 present at what became a sit down dessert special, held in Hoag Hall because of the off and on sprinkles and chilly breezes outside where it would regularly be held on the Dock. (Julie arrived at her cottage today, a little before 5 pm, back from a week's vacation out of state that included eclipse viewing at her daughter Heidi's home.) 

On this special occasion, it is only appropriate to include a shot of the sunset since that is Julie's tradition to come down to the Dock to observe and to photograph it.
