5-12-17, 12:25 am -- President Donald J. Trump said Thursday in his nationally televised interview, that he backs a full investigation into the Russian meddling of our 2016 Presidential Election. The President, in the exclusive interview today with NBC News' Lester Holt, called ousted FBI chief James Comey a "showboat" and revealed he asked Comey whether he was under investigation for alleged ties to Russia.
The President said that Director Comey assured him that he (the President) was not under investigation. In a late statement tonight, just before midnight, a close associate of Mr. Comey at the FBI refuted the conversation that the President recounted during the dinner that he (the President) had requested with Comey. Director Comey did not wish to dine with the President, according to the associate, because he allegedly suspected the conversation could easily be drawn into areas of conflicted interests.
President Trump also casually related to Mr. Holt that he (the President) had indeed fired Mr. Comey to put an end to the "hoax" of his Campaign having alleged collusion with the Russians. The Deputy Communications Director at the White House concluded her briefing with the Press today clearly stating also that the reason for Comey's firing was to put an end to the investigation of the President's Campaign in relation to the Russians.
