SLI Board President Responds to Concerns of Anonymous Readers

A "News.blog" serves at least two purposes. (1) To convey the news of the day, and (2) To provide the readers an opportunity to respond to that news. This News.blog offers that opportunity at the end of each and every article (even weather articles!).  I wish to thank those readers who participated in the short series of anonymous readers' comments between April 11th and 12th. As Publisher, I appreciate any and all comments, and I also appreciated our Board President taking an interest in our people's concerns, even if anonymous.

Bill Schaefer
First of all, I thank you for your candid response. I have been president of the board for the past two years and my efforts to make the activities of the board transparent seem to have fallen short. Every year we have four vacancies on the board and this year is no different. Every year we welcome nominations of candidates who are willing to work with the community and work with the board to oversee the business of the Silver Lake Institute. We always welcome nominations prior to and at the annual cottage owners meetings. The membership of the board has always been at the discretion of the cottage owners through their votes. We are always looking for members of the institute to get involved both on the board and on committees. If you are so inclined to get involved, please contact me at 585-737-8522.
On an additional note, I have been very very proud of the hard work and accomplishments of the SLI Board of Trustees. Many of them spend long hours making sure projects and issues are addressed so that the Institute runs smoothly and so that we maintain our 501C3 status. If anyone believes we have missed an important issue that needs to be addressed, again, please contact me and I will bring it to the board for the attention it deserves.
Sincerely,
Bill Schaefer

  1. How wonderful we are encouraged to give our views - however when the view is different, the rhetoric becomes "typical". You may encourage people to become a part of the SLI, community, but ask the question when you do get "community", involvement why is the duration of the people who would like to invoke a positive change, is their involvement so short lived. People want to be positive, want to be involved BUT if your idea is not part of the "selected" board's idea and their direction - all is ignored and tossed aside.
This does not give the SLI the diversification, of the ENTIRE community. Whoever wrote the original "blog" with respect I will also choose the anonymous posting.
