'Oh there's no place like home
For the holidays' . . .

Once upon a time, not so long ago, a U.S. Soldier, living and working in one of the near Eastern sandbox countries, asked his wife to send him dirt (U.S. soil), fertilizer, and some grass seed so that he can have the sweet aroma, and feel the grass grow beneath his feet. When the men of the squadron have a mission that they are going on, they take turns walking through the grass and the American soil -- to bring them good luck. Of all the things he could have asked his wife to send to him from home ... he asked for American soil.

If you notice, he is even cutting the grass with a pair of scissors. Sometimes we are in such a hurry that we don't stop and think about the little things that we take for granted. Why not say a little prayer for our soldiers, spouses and families, that give and give (and give up) so unselfishly for us.

  1. This is published to point out the sadness and yes, evil of separating families and their members, and especially for the purpose of war. Saddam Hussein was one of many evil dictators in the world, but he also kept major problems such as Al Qaeda and ISIS at bay. When we eliminated him, we created a terrible vacuum of leadership that was filled by evil religious zealots who seem to enjoy killing others, and who travel far and wide to accomplish their evil.
