NWS Issues Six Different Statements Today Updating Movements
Of Lake Effect Snow

Roads are snow-covered but plowed and passable. Side roads around the Lake were slippery at times today. Winds were light. Temperature at 10:15 a.m. was 28 with a high of 30F forecasted. The worst of the storm had been forecasted for northern, western, and southern Wyoming County, leaving the eastern portion of the county free from much of the direct hit. Day one of the storm (Thursday) began to appear at times to be effecting eastern Wyoming, but then would ease back off. The following is the last National Weather Service (NWS) Statement issued Thursday prior to midnight:

en-US SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT UNTIL 6:45PM EST THU ...A BAND OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL AFFECT SOUTHERN ERIE...NORTHERN CATTARAUGUS...NORTHWESTERN ALLEGANY...SOUTHERN WYOMING AND CHAUTAUQUA COUNTIES... AT 511 PM EST, A BAND OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW PRODUCING SNOW FALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR EXTENDS FROM THE CHAUTAUQUA RIDGE INLAND ACROSS SPRINGVILLE, ELLICOTTVILLE, DELEVAN, AND BLISS. THIS BAND OF HEAVY SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO DRIFT SLOWLY SOUTH ACROSS THE AREA THROUGH EARLY EVENING. WINDS IN EXCESS OF 30 MPH ARE EXPECTED WITH THIS BAND OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW, PRODUCING SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE... SPRINGVILLE, WESTFIELD, GOWANDA, ASHFORD, ARCADE, FRANKLINVILLE, MAYVILLE AND RUSHFORD. THIS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING HIGHWAYS... INTERSTATE 90 BETWEEN EXITS 61 AND 59. INTERSTATE 86 BETWEEN EXITS 6 AND 7. USE EXTRA CAUTION IF YOU MUST TRAVEL INTO OR THROUGH THIS DANGEROUS SNOW SQUALL. RAPID CHANGES IN VISIBILITY AND POTENTIALLY SLICK ROADS ARE LIKELY TO LEAD TO ACCIDENTS. CONSIDER DELAYING TRAVEL UNTIL THE SQUALL PASSES YOUR LOCATION.
