What's the Difference in
a Website and a Blog?

by Greg Franklin
For the most part, a website is static, holding a position on the web where the public can find you, your location, phone number, and know who you are, what you do or what you sell, your mission, and why you are better than anyone else. Changes to the website are infrequent by definition. Generally speaking, the website exists primarily as one-way communication (from the company or non-profit to the reader of the site). The exception to this is the ability to add tools that can accept orders from customers willing to enter their personal information in set (predetermined) forms, including payment, and delivery. Websites usually require more time and technical skill to create and to run using an outside host (web company).

A Blog, on the other hand, is dynamic (active), not only holding a position on the web where it can be found, but exists primarily for frequently changing information, news stories or opinions. The Blog serves, by definition, as a means of two-way communication. While the Blog can also communicate basic and unchanging information, its design lends itself to regular "posting" of new articles, opinions, or news articles which are automatically subject to the readers' responses (often known as "comments"). The blogging platform or template is created to be run by non-professionals (everyday people), although some would argue that the templates are not all that easy, particularly because they utilize parts of the language of the industry. Nevertheless, the Blog is known for its simplicity.
